DHL Transports Endangered Rhinos Back To Africa

Published by Guardian on Sun, 08 Jul 2012

IN a bid to keep endangered black rhinos specie from going into extinction, the United Kingdom (UK)-based Aspinall Foundation, has moved three black rhinos specie to the Kilimanjaro National Park in Tanzania to further preserve the specie. The transported animals were born in capacity at the Foundation's Port Lympne Wild Animal Park, but needed to be reintroduced to the Mkomazi Rhino Sanctuary in Tanzania with the support of Tusk Trust, a dynamic conservation organisation, following the diminishing number of the specie due to large scale poaching. The rhinos were transported to Tanzania in specially modified aircraft, Boeing 757 belonging to the world's leading logistics company, DHL to ensure their safety and were conveyed under controlled temperature. It took the logistics company10 hours from Manson Airport to deliver the animals, which include Moduli (male) and two females ' Grumeti and Zawadi ' in Tanzania, where they are now living in the wild for the first time.According to the Managing Director, DHL Express Sub-Saharan Africa, Charles Brewer, the company uses capability of logistics to support such a valuable conservation effort. 'We had expert and engineers from both continents working closely with The Aspinall Foundation and Port Lympne Wild Animal Park on relocation of these endangered species to ensure safety. The Chief Executive Officer of Manson, Charles Buchanan, said, 'We partner to assist the relocation of the three endangered rhinos. The number of animals we release gives a boost to indigenous populations, currently under real threat of extinction, including freeing an entire family of 11 captive western lowland gorillas as part of the charity's flagship project in Gabon.
