Robbers kill hotelier in Osogbo

Published by Tribune on Mon, 09 Jul 2012

Armed robbers numbering seven, on Sunday, struck at Alekuwodo area of Osogbo, Osun State, killing a businessman and hotelier, Mr Rasheed Bolarinwa, and carted away money and other valuables worth millions of naira from his residence. The robbers were said to have invaded Bolarinwa's residence at midnight and demanded a substantial amount of money from him, after they had searched his house and could not find enough money. The armed robbers were said to have shot sporadically into the air to scare the night guards and those in the neighbourhood.According to the wife of the deceased, Mrs Yetunde Bolarinwa, the armed robbers gained access to her husband's bedroom by breaking through one of the windows in the house, and later went to the sitting room and stole some property.Mrs Bolarinwa said all efforts made by her and others inthe house to get assistance from other residents in the neighbourhood failed, as no one responded. She said, 'the armed robbers positioned themselves in strategic locations in the area and, therefore, made it impossible for our neighbours to help us when we shouted for help.' The late Bolarinwa, who was said to be 47 years old, jointly owned the Yetty Hotel and Yetty Mama Restaurant in Osogbo, with his wife.Confirming the incident on phone, the state Commissioner of Police, Mrs Kalafite Adeyemi, said, the police are investigating the matter, so that those behind it can be apprehended.'We are aware of the ugly incident perpetrated by some people in the society, and I can assure you that they cannot run away from justice. The police are currently on the trail of those who perpetrated the dastardly act, and we are sure that very soon, they will be brought to book,' she said.
