I6 teams battle in Abesan Youth Cup

ABESAN Football Development (AFD) has confirmed 16 teams for the Abesan Youth Cup, which takes place from July 16 to August 11 at Ikedia Field, Abesan Estate, Iyana Ipaja, Lagos.Coordinator of the AFD, Tayo Adeyemo, at the draws held over the weekend, said the draws were done in the most transparent manner, urging the teams to adhere to the rules governing the competition.Group A has Dynamic FC, Shooting FC, Rossi FC and Okoloyan FC. In Group B are Oniru FC, Another FC, Adisa FC and FC Brazil while Group C comprises Lilitine FC, Alade FC, Sheriff FC and Arsenal FC. In Group D are United Academy, Jojo FC, Yaro FC and Ade FC.Adeyemo also noted that teams were expected to field U-17 players, who should not weigh above 60kg. He urged the teams to stay clear of trouble, warning that security personnel would be at the venue to check any unpalatable incidence.Laniyan Olabisi, who represented the chairman of the estate, Bolaji Ogunyanwo, commended the organisers of the tournament for the championship, saying the efforts would go a long way in the discovering the next generation of players.'I have watched with keen interest how you have staged many football tournaments in the estate but I am happy that you are focusing on the youths this time, which points to the fact that today's youths are the future,' Olabisi said.Dare Faneye, the proprietor of Daretta, who is sponsoring the event, said it was a way to contribute to the area where he operates his business. He also called on the organisers and teams to work together for an eventful championship.Faneye, who is making a return after sponsoring the first edition of the Abesan Cup, said he was delighted that the likes of Pius Ikedia, Taye Taiwo, Mutiu Adegoke and a host of others had taken part in other competitions put together by the organisers.
