Third Mainland: Agbede urges drivers to observe diversion rules

The Chairman, National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Lagos State chapter, Alhaji Tajudeen Agbede, has urged drivers, especially commercial drivers, to comply with the state government directive on route diversion for vehicles going and coming from Lagos Island axis.The government, on Monay, began major repair on the Third Mainland Bridge and ordered its closure to enable construction workers to do a thorough job on the damaged portion of the bridge and the state government in its determination to cushion the effect of the closure on motorists introduced route diversion.Speaking on the development, the NURTW boss advised his members in the state to comply with the route diversion plans released by the state government , explaining that the route diversion plan was to reduce the effects of the closure on motorists.Agbede explained that the state council of the union has reproduced the route diversion plan into flyers to be distributed in various motor parks in the state to create awareness among commercial drivers , hence supportng the state government"As partner in progress with the present administration of Governor Babatunde Fashola, we printed about 10,000 flyers to be distributed at various motor parks. We are doing Radio programmes on the diversion to create awareness among our people and save them from unnecessary harassment from the law enforcement agencies drafted to maintain law and order in the area."Agbede advised the construction company handling the repair job to complete it on schedule to reduce the burden being faced by the people.He assured that the state council, under his leadership, will continue to support the state government in its programmes and plans to better the lives of Lagosians.
