DaMonte Williams to Illinois: Fighting Illini Land 4-Star PG Prospect

DaMonte Williams, a 4-star point guard fromPeoria, Illinois, announcedhis commitmentto the Illinois Fighting Illini on Sunday.Williams, the No. 2-ranked player from his home state, is the No. 11 point guard and No. 46 overall player in the 2017 class, according to 247Sports' composite rankings.It's still early in the recruiting game when it comes to the 2017 class, but his commitment should push the Fighting Illini into the top 25 in 247Sports' class rankings. Prior to Williams' commitment, the team ranked 26th with a commitment from3-starshooting guard Javon Pickett, who also hails from Illinois.Fourth-year head coach John Groceseems to be looking within the state to complete his roster, and landing Williams is a good sign.The high school junior is the son of former Illinois guard Frank Williams, who ranks No. 16 on the Illini's all-time scoring list, perVinnie Duberof CSNChicago.com.
