Fresh crisis looms in Warri over development fund

Crisis is looming in Ogbe-Ijoh in Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State following alleged activities of some youths and politicians said to have cornered funds for the development of the community.The traditional ruler of Ogbe-Ijoh, Pere Amakosu Oduwor 111, lamented over the weekend that tension was building in his community because some powerful youths and politicians were diverting the funds from Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) for their selfish means.According to him, some of the powerful youths and politicians were either hijacking contracts for the development of the community which they eventually abandoned or received direct allocations meant for the people and utilized them personally.The royal father therefore, implored Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan to look into the allegations and save the community from another round of crisis, stressing that he should investigate all the contracts awarded for the development of his community and ensure that justice was done.He accused DESOPADEC of conniving with the powerful youths and politicians in his domain to shortchange the community and implored the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate the activities of the commission.'I implored Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFFC) to investigate these allegations to save my community from plunging into another round of crisis.'You can imagine, as the traditional ruler, I don't know what is going on in DESOPADEC as to the contracts awarded for the development of my Kingdom. I have written severally to the Commission but no response. I only hear that they have awarded one contract or the other in my community', he said.Pere Amakosu Oduwor therefore, urged the security agencies, particularly the EFCC, to investigate the abandoned, half-done and non attempted contracts awarded to Ogbe-Ijaw Kingdom by the Commission from its inception.He decried the mode of appointment into the Ogbe-Ijaw Isaba Diebri Community Development Committee (CDC) of Warri South West Local Government without his input in the nomination of members, noting that the body as presently constituted was illegal and should not be given any recognition.
