Accord Party Rep-elect escapes assassination

A House of Representatives member-elect for Oluyole Federal Constituency of Oyo State on the ticket of the Accord Party, Dr Ibrahim Olaifa, on Sunday, escaped being assassinated around his residence at Yaba, Lagos State.Narrating his ordeal to the Nigerian Tribune, on Tuesday, Dr Olaifa said he had relocated to his Lagos residence, following a tip-off that he had been marked for elimination by one of his opponents.He stated that at a meeting of the party on Sunday, at Oluyole Estate, Ibadan, he was warned by some of his supporters who told him that an aggrieved candidate from a prominent party in the state had allegedly boasted that he would not live to see May 29 hand-over date.The Representative-elect explained further that he moved to Lagos with the hope to avoid the assassination, which he had thought would be carried out in Oyo State, only to be waylaid by the assailants, who were young men and in a bus, at Yaba area at 11:30 p.m., on Sunday.I was trying to make a U-turn when they double-crossed me. I did not bother to complete the U-turn but zapped my car in a high gear and drove down the road until I saw a group of men quaffing beer before I stopped, he said.
