Olusola's rites of passage begins on Monday

A FEAST of arts, culture and media will herald the rites of passage for the veteran broadcaster and culture patriarch, Chief Segun Olusola on Monday, July 16 at the National Theatre, Iganmu, Lagos. He died on Thursday, June 21, 2012 at 77.The procession will begin with the assembly of over 2000 artistes and members of the creative industry in different costumes at the residence of Chief Olusola (Ajibulu-Moniya Galllery, Plot 49, Babs AnimashaunEstate Extension (end of Adelabu Street), Surulere, Lagos. In the mix will be Igunnuko, Eyo, Zangbeto, Agere and Ekpe masquerades. They will be joined by various other dancers and theatre troupes to embark on a cultural procession from Surulere to National Theatre. Take-off time is 9am.Thereafter, beginning from 2pm, the open field by the Entrance D of the National Theatre will host an open-air cultural performances by masquerades, theatre troupes and musical performances by popular musicians of all genres: Fuji, Juju, hip hop, highlife and others.This will dovetail into an exhibition of astonishing variety of crafts and affordable art items at the corridor leading to the Banquet Hall of the theatre complex. The display is billed to open at 12noon.Other highlights of the package include a plethora of performances by associations, guilds, and selected groups and individuals featuring drama, dance, music, comedy, literature and media at the Banquet Hall from 3pm to 8pm and film show from 7.30pm to 9pm by Tunde Kelani's Mainframe Productions at the open field by the Entrance C of the National Theatre. It will feature one of Nigerian classics dedicated to the late culture enigma.On Tuesday, July 17, there will be a Service of Song at Shell Hall of MUSON Centre, Onikan, Lagos billed for 5pm to 7pm. It will feature the business community, professional colleague and the Diplomatic Corps.On Wednesday, July 18, cultural remembrance by the traditional community that produced chief Segun Olusola will be on at Alaperu Palace Ground, Iperu-Remo, Ogun state. Time is 1pm to 5pm.On Thursday, July 19 will be his lying-in-state at his residence, Ajibulu-Moniya Gallery. Time is 9pm to 10pm and a Christian wake keeping at Alaperu Palace Grounds, Iperu- Remo Ogun State from 4pm to 6pm.On Friday, July 20, there will be another lying-in-state at his Iperu-Remo residence from 8pm to 9pm. Between 9.30pm to 10.30pm, there will be a Special Farewell honour by Akesan (Iperu) Club 1954 members at the club hall. Funeral service holds at Wesley Methodist Cathedral, Iperu-Remo at 11pm, followed by the interment at his Iperu-Remo residence. The reception will take place at Christ Apostolic Grammar School, Ibadan Road, Iperu-Remo.On Sunday July 22, a thanksgiving service will be held at Our Saviour's Church, Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos at 11am.
