Pamela: Strength Of Character: A Lifelong Image

Published by Guardian on Sat, 14 Jul 2012

He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls' Pro 25:28THE greatest personalities in history, whether good or bad, have had one thing in common: strength of character. It is a person's strength of character that determines the quality of his orher image/reputation and propels him or her to achieve their vision. When you think of dynamic personalities throughout history, a lot of names might come to your mind, albeit not all possessing the best of intentions. However, here I can use no better personality in history than Jesus of Nazareth. He is the embodiment of all that one could ever hope to attain and His name lasts forever. He believed with all of His heart in His vision and withstood the utmost test of it, even unto death. In this article, we will be touching some of the truths and that are symbolic in personalities of great character strength. These aspects no doubt sustained them in the achievement of their visions. The Strength of CharacterIt is the strength of character that makes a person truly great. I find no better words to express this than by this quote from Thomas Paine 'I love the man that can smile in trouble, that can gather strength from distress, and grow brave by reflection. 'Tis the business of little minds to shrink, but whose heart is firm and whose conscience approves his conduct, will pursue his principles unto death.'Who is Responsible for Strength of Character'All the strength one needs to make it through life is never inherent at birth. Strength is attained through training and practical application. It is each one's responsibility to build one's character up and no one can attain great heights without it.The Will of ManNo power can enslave a man against his will; we all have the power of choice ' indeed the path we take in life is as a direct result of the choices we make. This is a truth we must accept and exercise even in the face of adversity; it is from the exercise of a resilient will that strength is brought forth.Meeting Obstacles Head-onBe it fear itself, an unpleasant confrontation or a legitimate conflict, face whatever it is that stands in the way of your accomplishing your God-given vision. The truth is that people can attain great heights in this earth regardless of so-called conflicting circumstances. Many people have surprised the world by birthing change and not waiting for it to be served to them on a golden platter. Anyone who will achieve great heights most certainly will meet great adversity. But, through strength of character, he or she will overcome eventually.Resisting External InfluencesTake it from history; some of the most tenacious battles we will ever face in the course of our lifetime we would have to face alone. Some of them come right at you, flaming swords and all. Others come more subtly, with the intention to poison your thoughts or faith. Everyone would wish that at least their most treasured mentors or friends would support their vision but it seldom pans out this way. You have to brace yourself to stand alone and deal with disappointments. Learn to encourage yourself.Cultivating Power'Interest will cultivate where great power is manifested, whether physical, or mental, whether good or bad' ' Mark Hopkins, D.D.There are so many gifts men are born with; like a soulful voice, administrative skills, the ability to teach, etc. Everyone is born with something good for the edification of humanity. Although we had no say in what talents we were born with, it is our responsibility to improve what we do have. This truth is as valid as the constancy of the sun. The genuine usage of one's gifts and authority strengthens its power. It also follows that if you do not use what you have you will never experience full development and in some cases, the gift is lost.Self-control and Patient Endurance'Having done all to stand, stand therefore'' ' Ephesians 6:13 & 14A man will grow in strength of character if he takes responsibility and control over himself, spirit, soul and body and if he continues steadfastly in the accomplishment of his vision against all odds. A man who can control his spirit has an unstoppable destiny.Image and Etiquette addresses general perceptions, societal norms and expectations and personal expressions with the goal to cultivate strength of chracter, social graces, suavity and a dignified presence for interpersonal relationships.
