CIS inducts new members, introduces diploma in securities, investment

THE Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers (CIS) at the weekend inducted 34 new members as qualified stockbrokers.Speaking at the event the Chief Executive Officer, Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE), Oscar Onyema noted that the Nigerian capital market is growing as new and young brokers are coming into the market.While commending the CIS, Onyemasaid he was happy that young people are showing interestin the marketIn his submission, the Managing Director of Nigerian Stockbrokers Limited, Bosun Adekoya, said the brokers, who had passed the necessary examination of the institute can now trade on the floors of the Nigerian Stock Exchange.He urged the newly inducted brokers to maintain high standard and integrity, which according to him are the hallmarks of the stockbroking profession.According to him, the brokers should always ensure thattheir 'word is their bond,' adding that they should be good ambassador of the Nigerian capital market.He urged them to contribute to efforts aimed at restoring investors' confidence to the capital market, adding that the only way to do that was to ensure that investors were treated fairly and transparently in all their dealings.ThePresident of CIS, Ariyo Olushekun explained recently that council of the institute, at its meeting on March 15, 2012, approved new programme tagged: 'CIS Professional Diploma in Securities and Investment.'The new Professional Diploma, according to CIS, is a foundation course for any one wishing to start or progress his or her career within the financial service industry.
