D' Tigers' Olympic ticket the beginning of Nigeria's sports revolution, says Abdulahi

MINISTER of Sports/Chairman, National Sports Commission (NSC), Bolaji Abudulahi, has urged all sports federations in the country to emulate the national basketball team, D'Tigers, which finished third to pick one of the tickets for the London 2012 Olympics at the just ended World Basketball Championship in Venezuela.Speaking while presenting volleyball equipment donated by the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) to secondary schools in Abuja, he noted that the performance of the D'Tigers signalled a revolution in sports in the country, adding that the NSC has taken a special pride in the qualification ticket.The minister, who insisted that if basketball could perform so creditably in Venezuela, beating all the favourite countries like Lithuania and Greece in the championship, nothing would stop other sports from following suit and making their marks in world championship.'We at the National Sports Commission have taken special pride in the superb performance of the D'Tigers in Venezuela because it is to the pride of all Nigerians that the Olympics ticket was fought for,' he said.'I believe that if basketball should be elevated to that level within a short period, volleyball, handball and indeed other sports can as well be elevated.
