NBS and Nigerias statistical paradox

Yemi Kale, the Statistician General of the Federation and head of the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), soon to be one year in his post, gave an interesting interview in BusinessDay three weeks ago. In the last year, following NBSs unprecedented increasing data releases and analyses, including critical ones such as poverty, growth, and small business figures, we now all pay more attention to statistics. However, it has also thrown up selective data analysis and a misapplication of statistics by users of these data.
