Dankwambo awarded record road project 'Commissioner

Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo has awarded a 54-kilometer road project which is the longest ever initiated by any government in Gombe State, Information Commissioner Habu Dawaki has said.Reverend Dawaki, who spoke when he visited the headquarters of Media Trust in Abuja yesterday, also said government has ordered for 200 new tractors to boost agricultural production.Dawaki said the state government has so far started road projects worth about N25 billion, including the recent award of a N6.2 billion 54-kilometer Kanawa road, the longest ever awarded by any government in the state.The projects were aimed at improving road networks and commercial activities in the state, the commissioner said.On boosting agriculture, Dawaki said, 'Some tractors have been refurbished while 200 new ones have been ordered from Pakistan.'He said the governor's top priority is Education, which informed the initiation of projects for the building of new schools, including a college of arts and science and a college of education.Dawaki said also that the state government initiated poverty alleviation and job creation programs to check youth restiveness.'About 1,200 young men were recently trained in various fields including environmental and traffic management. They were employed as road and environmental marshals with reasonable salaries,' he said.'This measure coupled with the ban on the activities of 'Kalare' thugs has reduced restiveness and improve lots in the lives of the unemployed youths. Some have gone back to schools. The government has planned to train and employ over 30,000.'He said town hall meetings will be held across the state to allow people to share and voice their opinion.
