Sharks battles Heartland as NPL resumes weekend

SHARKS of Port Harcourt and Heartland of Owerri are billed to meet at the Liberation Stadium in Port Harcourt when the Nigeria Premier League (NPL) resumes across the country at the weekend after several postponements.The NPL went on recess early last month by the halfway mark to allow for the countrys general polls.  But the violence in the northern part of the country during the elections later caused a delayed resumption of the competition. The NPL said yesterday that mid-week matches would now be played to make up for lost time.Dolphins of Port Harcourt leads the championship with 43 points from 19 matches. It will continue its quest for a third league title next Wednesday away to champion, Enyimba, which has been excused from NPL action this weekend because of international engagement.Second-placed Sunshine Stars of Akure will also resume league action next Wednesday away to Bukola Babes as it is involved in the CAF Confederation Cup.Other matches slated for weekend are Tornadoes versus Kwara United, Plateau United versus Lobi Stars and Gombe versus Crown of Oshogbo. On Sunday, 3SC will host Ocean Boys, Rangers tackles JUTH of Jos, Pillars will face Zamfara United, while Warri Wolves will trade tackles with Kaduna United.
