Roland Berger, ADC to offer scholarships to LBS MBAs

Published by Guardian on Thu, 05 May 2011

ROLAND Berger Strategy Consultants-one of the worlds leading strategy consultancies and the African Development Corporation (ADC) - a financial services holding company, in partnership with Lagos Business School (LBS) have concluded arrangement for a new scholarship scheme for LBS Master of Business Administration (MBA) students.Scheduled to take effect from September 2011, scholarships will be offered every year to five young Nigerian professionals aspiring for careers in management, under the scheme, the selected students will have their tuition and living expenses paid for as they complete their MBA degrees at LBS.According to the MBA Director, Mr. Henry Onukwuba, in a statement made available to The Guardian, the scholarship will be offered on a basis of merit and proven financial need, so as to ensure that the aim for which it is being set up is achieved. His words: Every year a number of good candidates are unable to take up their admission offers because they cannot afford our relatively high fees. Here we are committed to developing business leaders, and so we seek ways to support high potential but indigent candidates, we are happy about this new development and we are saying a big thank you to our sponsors. He also added that the scholarship programme goes beyond offering financial assistance, as the selected students will also attend a summer session at the Frankfurt School of Finance, and conduct a mandatory internship at one of Roland Bergers international offices. The course of study emphasizes management science, the development of leadership skills and the acquisition of capacity for sound decision-making.Speaking on behalf of Roland Berger, the Partner of the sub-Saharan African Division, Mr. Christian Wessels, said We are aware of our role in the Nigerian society and committed to the development of the community where we operate. For us this programme is just the start of our long-term engagement with the economic future of the country. While Roland Berger and the ADC are at the process of making the initial financial commitment, the CEO of ADC, Mr. Dirk Harbecke, expressed hope that the programme sponsors would eventually be broadened to include more German and international companies so as to achieve maximum result.
