Chukwumerije is Team Nigeria's captain

TAEKWONDOIST, Chika Chwkwumerije has been named the captain of Nigeria's contingent (Team Nigeria) to the 2012 Olympic Games which begin this Friday in London.According to information from the Nigeria Olympics Committee (NOC) , Chukwumerije, son of Nigeria's former Information Minister now a serving senator, senator Uche Chukwumerije won bronze medal at the Beijing 2008 Olympics.He was also a gold medal winner at the 2007 All Africa Games held in Algiers but was dethroned at the 2009 edition held in Maputo, Mozambique where he settled for the silver medal.In form sprinter and jumper Blessing Okagbare was named as the assistant captain, a development that is expected to boost her morale ahead of the London events.Okagbare has been impressive of late putting up good performances at recent events including the Monaco Diamond League where she came first as well as the Aviva Diamond League in London where she breasted the tape ahead of American World champion, Carmelita Jeter and reigning Olympics champion Shelly-Ann Phryce.Mariam Usman was named as the country's flag bearer at the event which the NOC boss Sani Ndanusa said would be the best outing by Nigeria against all odds.
