Yaba LCDA urges firms to assist in youth empowerment

The Supervisor for Youth, Sports and Social Development, Yaba Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Shehu Ishola, has urged corporate organisations in the area to support sports development in the area.Ishola told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the weekend in Lagos that business organisations in the council's environment should aid its efforts in youth empowerment through sports to check crime.``For instance, we intend to sponsor some of the athletes discovered at the ``Ibile Games'' and those to be identified at the 18th National Sports Festival in November in Lagos to take to careers in sports.``We want our well-to-do individuals and corporate bodies to also do the same,' he said.The supervisor said the council alone could not do it and appealed to corporate organisations for support.``We cannot do it alone because we cannot concentrate all we have on sports development.``We are appealing to corporate organisations to assist us because we have other social responsibilities to the populace in the council area.'Ishola said such support could come in the form of funding, sponsorship of competitions to engage youths and scholarships.'If we do not develop them, they will become criminals and our lives and companies will not be safe,' he said.
