UNBEATEN Kano Pillars Football Club of Kano, which has never won the Federation Cup, say it has been primed enough to make this its year by returning to the commercial city with the elusive diadem. In an interview with TheGuardian, coach of Pillars, Baba Ganaru, said after his side's victory over hard-fighting Plateau United: 'I have always said that we are here to win this trophy. I want to repeat it here and also say that there is no going back on this.'Ganaru and his entire team are of the opinion that the support they have received at the Agege Stadium was enough for them to reward the supporters by lifting the trophy. He added: 'Agege is like Kano to us because of the support from the fans.'We worked hard to top the group for us to enjoy the support here. So as a team, we are ready to go to either Calabar or Ilorin for the semi-final and win and come back to play the final and win in Lagos.'On the all-out pattern of play his wards adopted, he said it was necessary because they sat back after their equaliser, it would have been very difficult to win, especially with the way Plateau United played.Asked to assess his team's performance and possible weak links, he said: 'The area I think we should improve on is our defence because I noticed that we have a little problem in that department.'This game was very tough for both sides and I must say that I was impressed with the performance of the two teams. However, I never expected a team from the Pro League to play like this. They have a very good team.'He praised most of the teams in the competition, saying they were giving established clubs a good fight for their money. According to him, 'the quality of play in this competition has been very impressive. The smaller teams are giving their bigger counterparts a good fight.'It will be a great thing for corporate bodies to come to the aid of the domestic leagues. Once this happens, the leagues will be better than what they are now and more of the numerous talents that are hidden will be unearthed.
