FC Robo, St. Gregory, others battle in talent hunt football tourney

DETERMINED to reawaken grassroots football in Lagos State, organisers of the annual Talent Hunt Football competition in Lagos have lined up goodies for players and officials of the 16 clubs that would take part in this year's edition of the tourney.The 2012 edition of the competition, which is the second in the series, will kick off on August 18 and end on September 29. It is being sponsored by BUA Group of Companies.At the draws ceremony held in Lagos yesterday, chairman of the organising committee, coach Cosmas Ubani, said the championship aims at promoting peace and unity among the youths as well as providing them an opportunity to display their raw talent.'This competition will also strengthen the existing co-operation among the youths and provide them a conducive environment to practice professional soccer locally and international,' he said.According to Ubani, the maiden edition of the tournament last year produced three players, Blessing Igonor, Ahmed Mohammed and Monday Gideon, who now ply their football trade in Ghana and England.The winner will smile home with N50,000 and a giant trophy, just as the second and third place winners will get N30,000 and N20,000 in addition to trophies. There are also prizes for the most valuable player and highest goal scorer, among others.The clubs taking part in this edition are Jokers Stars FC, Talent Hunt FC, Bright Stars, Island FC, 3-Stars FC, Amazing Grace FC, Royal FC, St. Gregory School, KC Football Club, Casket FC, All Stars, Godday FC, Damilola Tailor, FC Robo, Gods Favour and Kings Collage.
