Published by Tribune on Thu, 26 Jul 2012

ALL week 35 matches billed for this weekend including the much anticipated tie involving 3SC of Ibadan and Rangers International of Enugu will now be played on Sunday just as action in the Nigeria Premier League will resume today with an outstanding match, officials of the Nigeria Premier League (NPL) have said. The league was halted to give room for the Federation Cup which has entered the semi final stage after the completion of the group matches and the quarter finals.Today at Katsina-Ala, continental ticket chasers Lobi Stars FC of Makurdi will play host to CAF Champions League campaigners Sunshine Stars FC of Akure in a rescheduled Week five encounter. However, Acting Head, Competitions, NPL, Auwalu Jada confirmed in a statement he signed on behalf of the Acting Executive Secretary of the NPL, Tunji Babablola, that all Week 35 fixtures will be played on Sunday, July 28, 2012.According to Jada, all the remaining league fixtures would be decided same day, same time with a crack unit put in place by the league board to effectively monitor the matches to forestall possible incidents of match fixing by clubs or any compromise by the match officials."All Week 35 fixtures will be played on Sunday. And henceforth, all the subsequent fixtures will be played same day, same time to forestall incidents of match fixing by clubs. A crack unit has been put in place by the league board to effectively monitor possible cases of match fixing or any form of compromise by the match officials" Auwalu disclosed."Clubs and match officials are therefore warned to play by the rules or face severe sanctions" he warned.
