NEMA counsels members of public on averting disaster

The National Emergency management agency (NEMA) has stressed the need for state Emergency Agencies to cooperate with the national body of the agency to avert incidence of disaster, now very rampant.Sensitising members of the public on how to prevent fire disaster and other forms of disasters, South West coordinator for NEMA, Mr Iyiola Akande, said that many families directly or indirectly contributed to the disaster that occurred in the society because of their carelessness and ignorance.Mr Akande noted that most families indulge in many things that can triger disaster because of ignorance and he maintained that fire outbreak occurred in most cases because of the type of electric cables used in some houses to run their electrical connections.He stated that most household that use gas as means of cooking were careless with it, stressing that in some cases boiling ring was handled carelessly.Mr Akande cautioned those using candle wax to illuminate their homes to be careful when using it, because in some cases, the candles were placed carelessly, which may eventually cause fire outbreak.He also warned those in the habit of throwing refuse in the drainage to desist from it, because the refuse would block water channel and subsequently lead to flooding.In his remark, the General Manager of Osun State Emergency Management Agency OSEMA, Engineer Segun Ajayi, urged members of the public to raise alarm whenever there was an emergency , just as he urged parents to warn their children to stay away from anything harmful.
