F/Eagles defence is faulty -Emoedofu

Published by Tribune on Fri, 06 May 2011

FORMER Nigerian international, Anthony Emoedofu has said that the defence of the Flying Eagles despite winning the just-concluded African Youth Championship (AYC) in South Africa, is not strong enough to withstand global opposition.Emoedofu who once played for Nigeria at the U-17 World Cup, Canada 87 and U-20 World Cup, Saudi 89 told Tribunesports in Benin that coach John Obuh would have a lot to do before the team leaves for Colombia for the global showpiece. The Flying Eagles did not play as a team, their defence line was faulty. The coach should start working on this area because the World Cup is just around the corner. If we are to make any meaningful impact at the World Cup, the coach must look for a solution to our defence now, said the former Bendel Insurance FC player. The former Julius Berger FC player also noted that the team was also lacking in fitness. They have to work on their fitness too, the coach should train the boys on how to distribute ball effectively right from the back line to the attack, while the midfielders should be tutored on how to hold to the ball well. World Cup is not a jamboree but a serious event. I believeNigeria will make a good impact at the World Cup if we can address these areas, said Emoedofu. He also warned that the team should not be wasteful saying we should score as many goals as possible in any match.
