Akpabio inaugurates multimillion naira Cinemaplex in Uyo

A multi-million naira Cenimaplex constructedby the Akwa Ibom Government along UdoUdoma Avenue in Uyo Local Government Area is ready for use.The Cenimaplex is part of the Tropicana Entertainment Centre whose foundation stone ceremony was performed by the late President Umaru YarAdua on October 18, 2008.The Tropicana, handled by Silverbird Company, also has a five-star hotel comprising 18-storeys with 250 rooms and a banquet hall for 1,000 guests while the convention centre has a 5,000 sitting capacity.Performing the ceremony last Monday, the Akwa Ibom Governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio, expressed delight to Silverbird for the completion of the Cenimaplex despite the initial delay.Akpabio, who described the project as second to none in terms of quality  said he was happy to inaugurate it in the month of liberation, salvation and redemption, stating The project will redeem the people from boredom.This is a dream come true. I assure you that we have delivered the Tropicana Entertainment Centre. This shall remain a triangle of love. Whoever comes here shall not feel boredom, Akpabio said.Special Adviser on Technical Matters, Mr Etido Inyang, explained that Tropicana has Cenimaplex and a shopping mall, a five-star hotel and a convention centre, assuring that the second and third phases of the project would be completed and inaugurated between September and December.The Commissioner for Special Duties, Mr Enobong Umoetuk, thanked the governor for initiating the project and Silverbird for keeping the promise of delivering it without fail.Earlier, the Chief Executive Officer of Silverbird, Mr Ben Murray Bruce, had apologised to the governor for the delay and the embarrassment and criticisms that trailed the project.Bruce said with the completion of Akwa Ibom International Airport and Tropicana Entertainment Centre, the state could host any international event.He said the project was second to the one in South Africa and hinted that on completion he would bring Miss Nigeria, Miss World and other international events to boost the revenue profile of the state.Highlight of the occasion was the presentation of Battle of Los Angeles film.
