Okonta urges parents to keep children busy during holidays

AS primary and secondary schools across the federation embark on long holidays following the completion of 2011/2012 academic session, parents have been urged to engage their children in constructive activities.Former Chairman, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) Abuja Chapter and Local Director, Nyanya Zone, Eckankar Church, Mr. Fred Okonta, gave the admonition last weekend at the graduation ceremony of pupils of Highland Excellent Academy, Abuja.Okonta warned that with the security situation in the country, it behoves on parents to monitor children's activities and guide them against negative vices while on holidays.While charging them to make out time for the young ones, he also stressed the need for school operators to complement parents' efforts by designing academic programmes that would capture children's attention as a measure to keep them busy in a relaxed atmosphere.'There should be platforms for educational improvement such as computer programmes. I am saying this because there is no vacuum in life and when the mind is idle, it is readily available for anything that comes across and this could lead to young ones engaging in unwholesome practices, especially those ones, whose parents hardly stay at home.
