Frustrated bythe incessant failure of five Automated Teller Machine (ATM) of the Alagbado branch of one of the new generation banks, in the area residents have appealed to other bank operators to deploy their ATM to the community.Trapped by the inability of the machines to dispense money on May Day public holiday and the day after, some residents, who nearly went on rampage when a staff of the bank could not proffer solution to the problem, threatened to abandon the bank should any other bank opened its branch within the community.The community also wanted some of the old and new generation banks to establish their branches within the community to serve as rivals and alternative to the bank, stressing that most of the time; residents had turned back disappointed just because the ATMs were not functioning.Speaking with Community News, Mr Alphonsus Emuze, a retired military personnel and a resident of Caso community explained that the bank was not concerned about the plight of its customers simply because there was no branch of rival banks in the community.He said that some of the banks that ought to have established their branches within the community might have thought that they would not make much profit adding that most of the banks looked down on the community because of lack of adequate development.Mr Emuze explained that the entire Alagbado community, starting from Meiran to Alakuko which, according to him spans over three local council development area in the state depends on the only branch of the bank, saying that other banks would make profit if they should open up their branches in the community.He said, I was here recently to withdraw money, we were in the sun for almost two hours waiting for the machine to function, when I could not stand it again, I had to leave disappointed.It is the only bank for common people around this area with over 20 communities. From Meiran down to Alakuko, you cannot see any other branch of any new generation bank that is grassroots friendly. They have five ATM machines here, non is functioning, and they are all inside. At times, it is only one machine that will function, considering this crowd, will it not be problematic, he asked.Also speaking with the Community News, Mrs Nike Adigun, a resident of Lawal Community in Alagbado, who was there to pay Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) bill lamented the attitude of the bank staff saying that the branch manager should be called to order. Attempts to speak with any of the staff since their branch manager was not on seat, was turned down.
