Communities cry for restoration of electricity

Published by Tribune on Fri, 06 May 2011

Over 20 communities in AbeokutaNorth Local Government Area, that have been in total darkness for the past two years, have again cried to the out-going administration under the leadership of Chief Gbenga Daniel and the governor-elect, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, to provide transformers for them. The communities, which include Reals Confectioneries Limited, Idiya, Soyoye, Rounder, Alamala Army Barracks all along the Abeokuta-Igboora Road, lamented that the persistent darkness experienced by the people of the areas had affected them both socially and economically.A spokesperson of the community, Mr. Julius Ajayi, said that the communities had been in the dark since a 500KVA transformer serving the areas got burnt due to overloading. We wish to remind PHCN that electricity supply has not been restored to the affected areas including Reals Confectioneries Limited for the past two years when the transformer got burnt, he added. The communities also appealed to Senator Amosun to put their problems on his priority list on assumption of office. We are suffering more than we can imagine and we are appealing once again to Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), the Ogun State government and other stakeholders  to please take necessary and urgent steps to restore electricity supply to these communities, Ajayi added.
