Robbers raid Ibafo RCCG Steal N.5m building fund

Published by Tribune on Fri, 06 May 2011

RESIDENTS of Ibafocommunity onLagos-Ibadan Expressway are still in shock,  following the raiding of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) in the town by bandits. The suspected robbers swooped on the congregation during  last Sunday service and escaped with valuables  including the sum of N500, 000.The money was reportedly meant for the ongoing construction of the church, which began sometime last year at Ashiru Toyin Street in Ibafo.Ibafo is a fast-growing commercial spot, but which still lacks basic infrastructure. The community has witnessed an upsurge in human population lately, because of its proximity to Lagos, where the cost of accommodation is beyond the reach of the ordinary citizen. Some residents of the area told Community News that the bandits heralded their arrival midway into the service with three gun shots in the air.In the ensuing stampede, the hoodlums began to collect the handsets, jewelry especially rings from the church members. They also collected the money, which was believed to be  meant for release  for part of the church.Though no church member was  hurt during the raid, many of them  (members) were visibly destabilised by the incident and hurried home to overcome the nightmare. However, the incident had created an uneasy calm in the community, with most residents embarking on extra precautionary measures and appealing to the authorities to step up security in the community.
