Oyo govt to dualise Idi-Ape-Akobo-Olorunda Abaa road

Published by Tribune on Fri, 27 Jul 2012

The Oyo State Government will soon commence the dualization of Idi Ape-Akobo-Olorunda Abaa Road in Ibadan, the state Commissioner for Works and Transport, Alhaji Yunus Akintunde, has disclosed.Alhaji Akintunde, who disclosed this in a statement issued in Ibadan on Tuesday, said that the dualization of the ever-busy road would ease the traffic snarl being experienced in that axis and boost economic activities in the area.He said that all was set for the award of the contract for the first phase of the project, which would begin from Idi-Ape and terminate at General Gas, adding that the second phase, which would start from General Gas to Olorunda-Abaa, would commence after the completion of the first phase.``I like to state that Governor Abiola Ajimobi had, on several occasions, visited the area and has been so concerned with the plight of the residents. He has, therefore, approved the award of the contract for the dualization of the road to ease the perennial traffic gridlock in the area,'' the commissioner said.Alhaji Akintunde also said that the state Road Maintenance Agency (OYSROMA) would, any moment from now, commence the filling of potholes in some roads within the Ibadan metropolis to ensure that the roads were passable.Meanwhile, the Catholic Diocese of Oyo has commended Governor Ajimobi for the reconstruction of Mariama Road in Oyo West Local Government Area of the state. The Diocese, in a letter of appreciation written to the governor and signed by its Bishop, Most Reverend Emmanuel Ade Badejo, said that the reconstruction of the road had brought great relief to thousands of residents and commuters in the area.``Judging from the remarks of many around here, I believe that you can as well presume the appreciation of the entire Mariama Road community,'' Bishop Badejo said.
