GCI, Queens win Oyo School Hockey tourney

GOVERNMENT College and Queens School, both of Ibadan, have won the male and female categories of the maiden Oyo State Schools 5-Aside Indoor HockeyThe tourney held at the indoor sports hall of Lekan Salami Sports Complex in Ibadan. The two-day event was designed by Sola Cole to re-awaken the interest of the game in the younger ones and boost its awareness at the grassroots.Other schools that participated in the indoor hockey event, which was first of its kind in the state, included Government College, Ibadan, Christ School, Olapade Agoro Secondary School, Bethel International School, CAC Grammar School and Queen School, Apata, Ibadan.Omoniyi Nursery and Primary School and Dominion Christian School, Alexander Apata, Ibadan, which are beginners, would play a demonstration game.The event was supported by former Technical Director of the Nigeria Hockey Federation, Nicolas Igbokwe, who donated trophies for the winners while Serena Fine Foods Limited also supported the tourney by distributing its promotional items to pupils at the event.Dignitaries that drew curtain on the hockey tourney, according to the state's secretary for hockey, Folake Itege, were the chairman of the state hockey association, Tunde Odedokun, Chairman of Oyo State Sports Council, Temiloluwa Adibi, and general manager of the council, Folake Oyelakin.
