NFFconsiders three-nation tourney for Flamingoes

AHEAD ofpreparations forthe FIFA U-17 World Women Championship in Azerbaijan, the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has revealedplansto put the Flamingoes ina tune-up tournament involving the three African representatives in the competition billed for September.Disclosing this in a chat with newsmen yesterday in Abuja, the NFF General Secretary, Musa Amadu,said the federation was already finalising the arrangements with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and its Gambian counterpart to stage the tourney in September.Amadu, who noted that the federation has continued to map out strategies to ensure that the nationalU-17 women team got maximum preparation for the championship, noted that even thoughthere wasno form of financial rewardin the series of friendly games played by the teams, the federation wouldcontinue to give its best to the teams.He added that the deals were allreciprocal arrangements with the countries: 'Wehave commenced discussions withthe Ghanaians and Gambians to arrange a three-nation tournament even though we have not resolved whether it is going to take place in Ghana or Nigeria,' he noted.'But I want to inform you that all the three countries representing Africa in the FIFA U-17 Women World Cup in Azerbaijan in September will, in the month of August, prosecute a three-nation tournament to test ourselves and know the level of readiness for the encounter before the teams' departure.'It will be good for the players, particularly Nigerians and Ghanaians, to get the opportunity to test Gambia, which is debuting in the tournament after eliminating Tunisia. We should also test the readiness of the Gambians so that they should be able to put in good performance for the African continent in the Women World Cup.'On securing a friendly match for the Super Eagles in August, Amadu said: 'We are still working on it and are doing everything possible to secure a friendly for the Super Eagles, which will basically involve the home-based since we cannot secure the release of the foreign-based professionals.
