I'll be the last person to return to PDP 'Al-Makura

Published by Daily Trust on Sat, 28 Jul 2012

Nasarawa State Governor Tanko Al-Makura yesterday said he would be the last person to return to the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and described the party as 'history.'Al-Makura who was elected on the platform of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) was reacting to media reports suggesting that he was likely to return to the party he abandoned prior to his election.Leader of PDP faction in the state, James Angbazo, had told the national leadership of the party in Abuja Tuesday that Al-Makura remained a party member at heart but has been bidding his time to return to the party as soon as the internal crises in the state party's chapter were resolved. But Al-Makura in an exclusive interview with Daily Trust yesterday described Angbazo's assertion as 'impossible.'I will be the last person to go to PDP. Even if I have to be the last person, before I will go, the sun will rise from the west and set in the east, which is an impossibility.'Recalling his ordeal in the PDP, Al-Makura said despite his contributions to the party as an 'ardent member' and one who 'made the party what it is' in the state, he 'unfairly ostracised.'I was ostracised by the party and was treated unfairly without taking into consideration some of the rights and privileges that I deserve.'As far as I am concerned, I bid them farewell since the end of 2010 when I joined CPC.'He described the CPC as his party of choice and that he said has now found himself 'in the right place with CPC because my philosophy, my ideals, my way of life are in tandem with the philosophy of the CPC.'On the insecurity in the North, Al-Makura said the situation has placed enormous stress on the economic wellbeing of the North and uncertainty in budget spending.'Security is the most devastating factor pulling down the ability of the North to stay afloat,' he said.He also noted that the piecemeal access to revenue and poor statutory allocation to states in the North have substantially placed Northern states at a disadvantage.
