Natural and Home Treatments For Gastritis

Published by Guardian on Sat, 28 Jul 2012

THE stomach wall like any other orifices possesses a formidable array of natural defenses and it is also lined with delicate mucous membranes that protect it from the numerous potentially harmful microorganisms and chemical substances that we ingest with foods and drinks. However, if these innate defenses weaken or fail by whatever reasons, these harmful and inimical agents may invade the mucous membranes, irritating them and causing them to be inflamed.Gastritis is the painful inflammation of the lining of the mucosa of the stomach (gastric). This digestive system disorder is acute when it comes up suddenly and when it occurs slowly over a period of times it is said to be chronic.Symptoms of GastritisThe symptoms of gastritis vary from one person to another and they depend on how acute it is or how long it has been. But generally, the main symptoms of gastritis are as follows:(i)Pain or discomfort above the navel that begins and gets worse after meal.(ii)A feeling of pressure and fullness after meal, indigestion and heartburn.(iii)Loss of appetite, nausea with or without vomiting and increased salivation.(iv)Coated tongue, foul mouth taste, bad breath, and hiccups and sometimes sour belching.(v)In some cases, there could be constipation and diarrhea, blood or coffee - like substance in the vomit, or blood in stool, or dark stool ' which may be a sign of bleeding type of gastritis (erosive gastritis).vi) Headaches, dizziness, weakness and mental depression. If gastritis is left untreated, repeated irritation and inflammation of the stomach (gastric) lining may result in increased stomach acid, peptic ulcer, cancerous gastric polyps or tumors, which may become life- threatening.Causes of GastritisDrinking of strong alcoholic beverages together with cigarette smoking very early in the morning on an empty stomach remains one of the most common causes of gastritis among most African men. Also, there are those who cannot do without taking the common painkillers especially the non- steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and the so-called 'hard drugs', have long been associated with gastritis especially when they are ingested on an empty stomach.Microbial infections (viral, bacterial, fungi and parasitic) have been identified to be the main causes of gastritis, e.g. we he have viral gastritis ('stomach flu') and bacterial gastritis. Helicobacter Pylori is a bacterium that cause peptic ulcers and it has also been implicated in gastritis. The infection of this microorganism can be transmitted from person to person- through contaminated foods and drinks.Eating in haste without proper chewing before swallowing, overeating, eating between meals, late super, eating wrong food combinations, overconsumption of acid-forming foods (artificial sweet drinks, red meats, white sugar and its products, fried foods,) and eating very hot or cold foods have been found to provide the fertile soil for gastritisProlonged anger, nervous and inner tension, worries, fear, anxiety and chronic stress, creates acid conditions that contribute to the development of gastritis.Gastritis may develop after traumatic injury, ingestion of poisonous substances and a major surgery. In some cases, gastritis can be as a result of certain diseases like peptic ulcer, anemia, pernicious anemia, disorders of the immune system, burns, food poisoning, etc.Diagnosis of Gastritis:Chronic gastritis may be a sign of a serious underlying digestive system disorders and there are other medical conditions that can mimic the symptoms of gastritis. Therefore, gastritis should be diagnosed by a competent health-care provider who may conduct the tests known as Barium meal test, Endoscopy, Blood test, Stool examination, etc. in order to rule out or to establish a definite gastritis diagnosis.Helpful Natural And Home Remedies For Gastritis:The first step towards a successful treatment of gastritis is to avoid acid- forming foods, very hot or cold foods, very strong spicy foods, coarse vegetables, alcoholic beverages, cigarette smoking, coffee, strong tea, fizzy drinks, white sugar, , etc, that can irritate the stomach wallOvereating and hasty eating should be avoided. Also foods should be avoided when angry, worried, or during deep inner and emotional tension.Patients with gastritis respond very well to any of the following natural and home remedies:One fresh raw egg mixed with a teaspoonful of lime juice and a pinch of table salt can be taken at once daily. This mixture will help soothe and relieve the painful inflammation of the lining of the mucosa of the stomach (gastric).Taking 2 spoonfuls of Fresh Aloe vera gel 3 times a day will help soothe and heal any form of internal injury or inflammation.A spoonful of charcoal powder mixed in half a glass of milk and taken 2 times daily will help reduce the pain or discomfort of gastritis.A daily intake of a glass of equal quantity of carrot and Irish potato juice helps in the healing of internal inflammation surfaces. An exclusive avocado pear (mono) diet for up to two weeks has been found to be very beneficial in healing internal inflammations and wounds.A glass of the mixture of equal quantity of Papaya and Pineapple juice taken 2 times daily will help soothes the epigastric pain of gastritis.Taken 2 spoons of fresh palm oil very early in the morning on an empty stomach will relieve the painful of gastritis throughout the day.Taking up to a glass of fresh coconut water daily for 40days will help in healing any form of internal injury or painful inflammation.A daily intake of one teaspoon of powdered cayenne pepper in a glass of milk will help heal gastritis.Cayenne has been found to be particularly sensitive to Helicobacter pylori and other organisms that can cause digestive tract problem like peptic ulcer. However, cayenne pepper will first of all irritate the inflamed mucosa of the stomach, before the healing can commenced. It will first of all act like iodine on a fresh sore before it starts the healing process. Cayenne still remains one of the best natural remedies for internal wound or inflammations. However, because of the initial transient painful reactions on either gastritis or peptic ulcer patients - which normally last for about 3 days, many patients with digestive tract problems would rather like to avoid cayenne pepper.Mobile phone no: 08033065263,E-mail: ihesie84@yahoo.com.
