2 Airforce men, 1 policeman, 2 others killed in Kano, Damaturu

GUNMEN, on Sunday, killed two airforce men and two civilians, while they injured a commercial motorcycle in an attack carried out at different parts of Kano metropolis.The airfoce men were said to have been gunned down opposite Sa'adatu Rimi College of Education, Kano, at about 12.00 p.m, while on their way to Zaria.It was alleged that the gunmen laid ambush for the vehicle in which they were being conveyed, at Yanlemu, on the outskirts of Kano.Another attack by gunmen at Hotoro Wali way also resulted into the death of two civilians in front of their house.Unconfirmed reports had it that the gunmen attacked the two inside a shop after they had demanded for money.During the shoot-out, Nigerian Tribune gathered that a bullet hit a commercial motorbike rider and injured him.The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mohammed Dutse, confirmed the Hotoro incident but refused to comment on the killing of the airforce officers.The spokesman of the Joint Task Force (JTF), Lieutenant Ikedichi Iweha, confirmed the attack on the airfoce officers but directed the Nigerian Tribune to contact airforce authorities for more comments.Also in Damaturu, Yobe State, there was gun battle around Nassarawa area of the state between gunmen and men of the JTF.Sources said the JTF raided a house suspected to be home of some sect members and engaged them in a gun duel, where more than 10 persons were said to have been killed.Reacting, however, the state Police Commissioner, Mr Patrick Egbwu-niwe, said what happened was an ambush on the JTF patrol vehicle around the Nassarawa bypass.According to him, some gunmen attacked the patrol vehicle with explosives and gun, leading to the death of one police officer, while another officer and two soldiers were injured.
