SON AND SUBSTANDARD PRODUCTS

OFFICIALS of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) were reportedly at the recent Enugu Trade Fair to educate and orientate participants at the fair on why their products must conform with standards.  There was nothing out of place in the SON efforts at sensitising members of the public, including manufacturers and traders, to the imperative of transacting in good quality products as that is an integral part of its mandate. What is odd and unacceptable, however, is that it is mostly at such fairs and talking shops that one gets to hear and feel the presence of the organisation while the core object of its mandate is virtually neglected or relegated to the background.
