ABOUT four suspected armed robbers, on Sunday, invaded the Osanta Microfinance Bank in Igboho, headquarters of Oorelope Local Government Area of Oyo State, vandalising the bank's doors. The two night guards watching over the bank were allegedly killed by the robbers.According to the bank manager, who did not want his name in print, the assailants allegedly stormed the bank around 1.30a.m, on Sunday, brandishing dangerous weapons and with the intent of breaking into the bank but they met stiff resistance from local hunters and watchmen who mobilised to Oke Afin area of the town where the bank was located.'They vandalised the doors leading to the banking hall but they were not able to gain access into the bank. In the shoot-out that ensued between them and the hunters, our two guards died while one of the robbers, a Fulani man, was also gunned down and captured. He later died around 2.00p.m yesterday,' the manager said.When contacted on the incident, the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO) DSP Olabisi Ilobanafor, confirmed that there was an attempted bank robbery in Igboho where two night guards were matcheted and someone suspected to have been with the invaders sustained gun injuries. He said the three of them were taken to the hospital and they later died.She noted that some arrests were made while swords were recovered from the venue of the incident, noting that investigations were already on.Meanwhile, LAGOS State Commisioner of Police, Umar Manko, on Monday afternoon, paraded 19 suspects before newsmen.Oludare Oladodoyen, member of staff of a new generation bank, was arrested with 19 automated teller machine (ATM) cards belonging to another new generation bankThe suspect was arrested at the Ogba Agege branch of one of the new generations banks while trying to make a withdrawal with one of the ATM cards.The police commissioner stated that the sum of N652,000 was recovered from the suspect.The suspect claimed to be a money lender. He allegedly said the ATM cards that were found on him were collected from the people he gave financial loans to stand as collateral.Meanwhile, members of different gangs of car snatching syndicates were also arrested by the police in the state and 12 exotic cars were recovered from them.Manko stated that eight out of the recovered vehicles were recovered from a mechanic workshop in Agidingbi area of Agege after diligent investigations.The Nigerian Tribune gathered that the bubble on the activities of the armed robbers burst when a resident of Ajah area of the state reported that his car had been snatched by armed robbers.The police also recovered two locally made single barrel guns, three single barrel locally'made short guns , one locally made single barrel pistol, 35 live cartridges, four mobile phones, four wrist watches, one Browney Pistol, with No. 57932 with nine rounds of live ammunition and one sack of substance suspected to be Indian hemp.
