Kogi rural dwellers assured of health care service

THE Kogi State government has assured people living in the rural areas of qualitative and efficient health care service delivery system.Captain Idris Wada, the state governor gave the assurance in Okpo, Olamaboro Local Government Area, when he inspected the free health care service offered by the state Chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), organised in the three districts of the state, as part of programmes marking its 2012, Annual General Meeting.Represented by his deputy, Yomi Awoniyi, he disclosed that his vision for rural dwellers was one that will enable them access 24 hours services in all cottage and general hospitals across the state, adding employing adequate medical personnel and providing facilities will be given serious attention under the present administration.The governor called for inputs from the state NMA, on ways at improving health care delivery in rural areas, describing primary health care as the bedrock in achieving the Millennium Development Goals objectives on health.In his remarks, Dr Ahmed Attah, State Chairman, NMA, said the health care intervention to rural dwellers, centered on the provision of anti-malaria, anti-hypertension, deworming of children and adults, provision of insecticide treated nets, voluntary counseling and testing for HIV, Hepatitis A and B as well as provision of free drugs, as the association's way of reaching out to the less privileged who were mostly rural dwellers.
