25 students get bursary from Offa indigenes in US

Twenty-five students drawn from various secondary schools in the Offa Local Government Area of Kwara State have been given bursary award by the United States branch of Offa Descendants' (ODU).The event was held at the Ludlow Hall of Offa Grammar School, Ofa and attracted the presence of eminent sons and daughters of Ofa as well as parents, guardians, students, NUT, Ancopss and Chief Tajideen Gbadamosi, the Ajiroba of Ofa who represented the Olofa of Ofa, Oba Mufutan Gbadamosi Esuwoye II.Speaking at the event, the chairman of the occasion who is also the National President of Offa Descendants' , (ODU), Chief Hamzat Adedeji, thanked the US branch of the for its kind gesture which he said would relief the beneficiaries of some financial problems.He also called on other individuals and groups in Ofa to emulate this worthy example.Alhaji Adedeji, who enjoined the beneficiaries to justify the award by using the money for the purpose intended, added that they should face their studies and refrain from any anti-social behaviour. Also speaking, the Ofa Zonal Chairman of ANCOPSS, Alhaji Raheem Oyetoke Keji, who is also the Principal of Ausar-Ud-Deen College, Ofa, noted that the Ofa community had produced many highly educated people now occupying vanous positions of trust in and outside the country, applauding the donors.He also called on well-to-do individuals and groups to positively impact on educational development in Ofa by giving scholarships and bursary awards as well as provide infrastructure and other educational materials to educational institutions in Ofa.Alhaji Keji also suggested that there must be a clearing house where all activities and commitments of all clubs, societies, associations and foundations, among others in Ofa are collected in order to avoid duplication and abuse, even as he charged students to shun all acts capable of tarnishing their names, parents and Ofa community.Also speaking, the Chairman of Ofa Schools' Parents / Teachers' Association, (PTA), Prince R.S. Popoola said the action of the donors showed their level of patriotism and commitment to the development of Ofa community and students' welfare in particular as he charged parents to monitor the movements and activities of their children.Alhaji Popoola, then commended the ODU for its tremendous contributions to the development of Ofa, calling on all sons and daughters of Offa to identify themselves with the .
