Outdooring Kontessa

Published by Guardian on Tue, 31 Jul 2012

TWELVE years ago, when Ijeoma Ubosi opened her first shop at the Elpina Plaza on Akin Adesola Street Victoria Island, Lagos, little did she know that Kontessa, a fashion retail outfit, would become one of the leading brands in the country. From that single step in the upscale plaza, the business expanded to six outlets, with patronage increasing almost on a daily basis. At that stage, the need for expansion became certain.Just recently, the outfit opened its new store located on Agoro Odiyan Street, off Adeola Odekun Street Victoria Island, thereby shutting down business at Elpina Plaza where the dream began. The evening attracted mostly stylish Nigerians and expatriates, who have been part of the success story of Kontessa.THE flagship store now has brands such as Tumi and Lancel (a renowned leather brand that manufacturers of top class suitcases and travel bags), Nara Camicie brand and Kontessa, which stocks some of the best shoes and bags in the country.'After 12 years at the Elpina Plaza, I thought of the need to expand, which gives us the opportunity to consolidate all our businesses under one roof. Unlike in our old store, where we had six different shops, we have everything under one building. Most importantly, we have more space for customers to shop. We've also established a loyalty scheme for our customers, who have patronized us all these years,' Ijeoma said.Notable among guests at the opening, who were treated to assorted drinks and chops, are her husband and CEO of Megalectrics Limited (owners of Beat 99.9 FM, Classic 97.3 FM and Naija FM 102.7), Chris Ubosi, Olisa Adibua, Alex Okosi, Okwudili Umeyiora, Ono Bello and others.
