Malaysia-based group partners Imo on sports development

EFFORTS by the Imo State Government to take the youths away from criminal activities has got a boost from a group of Malaysia-based indigenes of the state known as Imo Welfare Union.The group has instituted a competition tagged 'Imo Rescue Mission Football Competition,' which it says it wants to use to arrest the attention of the youths before criminal elements get to them, adding that it has finalized arrangements for the competition to hold this month.Briefing newsmen in Owerri on Monday, the representatives of the group, which included the president, Nduka Uchenna, vice president, Innocent Ezeala, Uzo Pat Osuagwu and his wife, Stella, said the competition would start in six zones, among which are Orlu (two), Okigwe (two) and Owerri (two), adding that at the end, medals and other prizes would be given to outstanding players.Ezeala said the group has met with the Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Ben Uwajimogu, Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Kenneth Emelu, and a member of the state assembly, Stan Dara, to fashion out modalities for the competition
