Task force intercepts arms cache, kills two

THE Multinational Joint Task Force (MJTF) has intercepted a cache of arms and ammunition at the Daban Mara border town with Chad in Borno State and killed two suspected Boko Haram gunmen that were allegedly transporting them into the country at about9.00 p.m. Monday.The intercepted arms and ammunitions include eight rocket- propelled launchers, 10 each of rocket bombs and chargers, two Kalashnikov rifles, 13 magazines with six rounds of 7.62mm special ammunitions with a Bank PHB ATM card.Speaking on the interception, the spokesman of the Joint Task Force (JTF), Lt.-Col Sagir Musa, in Maiduguri, said that following intelligence reports on the suspected importation of armsand ammunitions into Nigeria, the MJTF, State Security Services (SSS) and other security services swung into action and arrested a Toyota Pick-Up van marked Yobe NGU 19 XA with the arms and ammunition covered with palm leaves.He said on sighting the security agents, two suspected Boko Haram gunmen fired, but were returned with gunfire, killing two of them on the spot.Musa further disclosed that the large consignment of arms has already been moved from Baga/Daban Masara to Maiduguri, the final destination of the Islamist sect's cache of arms.He appealed to members of the general public to cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information on the modus operandi of the sect.
