Compensate Families Of Slain Corps Members, Jakande Urges FG

Published by Guardian on Sat, 07 May 2011

FORMER governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Jakande has urged the government to do everything possible to compensate the parents of youth corps members who were killed during the post-election crisis which swept through the Northern part of Nigeria recently.Speaking yesterday in Lagos, he described the killings as wicked and unpatriotic. I cannot understand why anybody should take the lives of innocent citizens because of election, he said.Jakande said youth corpers should not be involved in the conduct of election in Nigeria again. Those doing their National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) should be not be involved in election again. I think that the election commission should find other ways of doing it. Let us leave the children to face their career. I feel very sad that youth corpers died while serving their nation, he added. He flayed the Governor Isa Yuguda of Bauchi State for saying that the youth corpers were destined to die that way. How can he say that such people should die for nothings sakeJakande praised Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega for conducting a free and fair election, saying that he has done very well. INEC  has done very well but before the next election, everybody should ensure that violence will not occur, he saidHe canvassed for free and fair election devoid of violence. Losers  should wait till the next election, it may be their turn. As a nation ,we have done well to have conducted this free and fair election. But everywhere, they are only talking of the post-election crisis. Jonathan is doing well and I wish he would continue to do well.He should face security, education and power. I like the programme he set for his government and I want him to stick to the programme and fulfill them, he said.
