Published by Tribune on Thu, 02 Aug 2012

PORTUGAL-BASED Nigeria's table tennis player Quadri Aruna has expressed regret over his early exit at the table tennis event of the on going London 2012 Olympics Games blaming himself for the loss.Aruna who plied his trade with CDSR Os Toledos, Portugal crashed out of the games in the second round game of the Olympics with a 2-4 defeat to Turkish Vang Bora having recorded a big upset with a 4-2 victory over Carlos Machado ranked 80 in the world. The 23 year- old ping ponger while chatting with Tribunesports after his exit from the games blamed himself for the defeat saying he underrated the opponent.According to the Oyo State- born table tennis player who many had expected would go far at the games said he had a bright chance to win the match having won the first two sets but took things for granted. He said: '' I should have won the game but I think I took him for granted having won the first two sets and he came from the two sets down to defeat me, I took him for granted and underrated him which eventually cost me victory in the quarterfinal stage of the games and put an end to my hope of playing in the final. This is a hard lesson and I am optimistic it won repeat itself,''he said sadly before he departed London for Nigeria via Lufthansa Airline.
