Keke NAPEP operators threaten showdown with Lagos govt

Published by Tribune on Thu, 02 Aug 2012

Members of the Three Wheelers Beneficiaries / Operators Association, have threatened a showdown with the Lagos State government and four others , over what they described as an effort to force them to join another transport . The Keke NAPEP riders also refuted reports that the association had lost the suit it filed against the Lagos State government and four others, insisting that the case was still in court. The riders noted that 'Any attempt to prevent our association from the use of our parks and garages or subject our members to any form of intimidation, harassment and maltreatment is tantamount to contempt of court.' They, however, threatened that the association was ready to resist , with every legal machinery at their disposal and other reasonable means any attempt of illegality and breakdown of law and order. The administrative secretary of the association, Lucas Olaore, told Community News that 'though the earlier case, filed by the association at a Federal High Court in Lagos was struck out on technical ground , the association had refiled the suit. The administrative secretary said that 'our earlier similar case, Suit NO FHC /IKJ /CS/36/2010, was struck out by the said Federal High Court on 12 June 2012 as a result of discrepancies in the arrangement.' He added that 'since the case was struck out on technical ground and not dismissed, we have filled the aforesaid new suit , as law abiding citizens and members of a responsible organisation. 'The secretary also denied the report that the association had, after the case was struck out, gone to parks in the state to cause mayhem and break down of law and order. He, however, noted that 'It is disheartening that some disgruntled elements have been going around mischievously spreading false information and mendacious reports that our case was dismissed. The Keke NAPEP riders' secretary stated that, 'it is instructive to state and inform the general public that we are still in court and pursuant to the much cherished rule of law.
