350 teams for MTN Street Soccer round two

Published by Guardian on Thu, 02 Aug 2012

AFTER the elimination of over 400 teams in round one, the stage is now set for the second stanza of this year's MTN Lagos Street Soccer Championship with 350 teams expected to compete for places in the next stage of the competition. The teams have been drawn into 72 groups, the two top teams progressing to the third round of the championship. Twenty-one centres across Lagos will host the matches holding this weekend while top teams like Lawal Akapo and Raymond Streets target their places in the next stage of the competition.According to the Local Organising Committee (LOC), the first round witnessed exciting matches as teams like Raymond Street thrilled fans at the Elegbata Playground with its exceptional skills.'We are happy that all the teams gave good account of themselves in the first stage of the competition because everything went well and most of them conducted themselves very well in most of the centres,' the LOC said.'We are also hoping that the second stage will be more fulfilling and exciting with the best teams advancing to the third round of the championship. We also want to charge the teams to shun violence and embrace sportsmanshipspirit during the tournament.'For the first time in the history of the competition, a winner between two teams was decided by the toss of coin at the Oshodi Centre after Mushin's Shotinoye and Alimosho's Future teams were tied after the first round matches.
