Asumnu Also Qualifies, As Osayomi FlopsNIGERIA'S medal's prospect in the on-going London Olympic Games, Blessing Okagbare, lived up to her pre-Olympics rating yesterday, as she strolled into the semifinal of the 100m race, setting a new Personal Best and Season Best time of 10.93 seconds.Also through to the semifinal of the women's 100m, which will be concluded later today was Gloria Asumnu.Okagbare, who raced against America's Tianna Madison in heat 4, strolled from to the finish line after setting off late from the block. She lowered both her Season Best and Personal Best time of 10.96 seconds. She ran in lane 6.Other competitors in the pack included Michelle-Lee Ahye of Trinidad and Tobago and Tatjana Pinto of Germany.Earlier, another Nigerian, Gloria Asumnu, who competed in lane 4 of heat 3, scaled through to the semifinal in a time of 11.13. Asumnu finished third in the race won by Veronica Campbell-Brown of Jamaica. The Jamaican ran 10.94 seconds to win the race.It was a bad day for home-girl, Abiodun Oyepitan of Team Great Britain, as she finished fifth to crash of the race.Also out of the women's semifinal today is Nigeria's Oludamola Osayomi. She had a bad start to finish fourth in the last heat of the day, returning in 11. 26 seconds.Before the qualification of Okagbare and Asumnu yesterday, three other Nigerians, including Amaechi Morton, Regina George and Omolara Omotosho had scaled through to the semifinals in their respective events.Morton came third in heat 1 of the men's 400m hurdles in a time of 49.34 sec, while Regina George, who was recently cleared of drug offenses, was first in the women's 400m event. She ran 51.24 sec to win heat 7.On her part, Omolara Omotosho also qualified, despite finishing 4th in heat 3 in a time of 52.11 seconds.Another Nigerian female athlete, who failed to advance from the heat yesterday was Uhunoma Osazuwa, who finished 7th in heat 4 of the women 100m hurdles in a time of 13.46 seconds.
