THE Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN) has set aside May 9 - 15 2011, for activities to mark its Bible Week celebration. The theme for this years celebration is For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven. Psalm 119:89 (KJV) . The event will feature lectures, Bible quiz, debates, exchange of pulpit and prayers etc. The Week is organised yearly to create awareness on progress made by the organisation, to offer prayers and raise fund in support of Bible translation, publishing and distribution efforts. The BSN does not receive subsidy from outside Nigeria. BSN is a non-profit interdenominational Christian organisation that translates the Bible into local languages, publishes, distributes and raises funds for Bible work. It has Bibles in 19 Nigerian languages, the New Testament in 60 local languages and one book or another in 98 languages. It gives free copies of the Bible to old peoples homes and orphanages, the visually impaired, prisoners and women of easy virtue, among others. Diocese Of Lagos West Holds SynodTHE opening ceremony of The Third Session of the Fourth Synod of the Diocese of Lagos West, Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion comes up on May 11, 2011. The theme is Raising a Godly Generation. On Thursday, May 12, the President of the Synod and Bishop of the Diocese, Rt. Rev. Dr. Peter Awelewa, will deliver his presidential address at 11am. On Friday, May 13, and Saturday, May 14, the Synod will break into Plenary Sessions. All activities of the Synod hold at the Archbishop Vining Memorial Church Cathedral, Oba Akinjobi Way, GRA, Lagos. Guests, expected at the Synod, include the governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, top government officials, captains of industries, traditional rulers and delegates from the Diocese and beyond. The closing ceremony of the Synod comes up on Sunday May 15 at 10am. Synod ConvocationsThe Synod of the Diocese of Oke-Osun (Anglican Communion) will hold on May 5- 8 at the Cathedral of St. Paul, Gbogan, Osun State. The theme is That Both the Sower and the Reaper May Rejoice (John 4:36) The Synod is to be presided by the Bishop of the Diocese, Rt. Rev. Abraham O. Akinlalu. Also, the second session of the first Synod of the Diocese of Isiala Ngwa will hold on May 1215 at St. Augustines Church, Mkpuka. The theme is The Beatitudes: A Life Builder on Christian Characters (Matt 5: 1-12) The Synod is to be presided by the Bishop of the Diocese, Rt. Rev. Isaac Nwaobia. Listen To Gods Guidance, Cleric Tells JonathanTHE coordinator of the Christian Pentecostal Mission and Deputy President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, Rev. Mercy Ezekiel, has advised President Jonathan to pray and listen to God for divine direction.Speaking at the conclusion of an Easter programme titled, He is Alive, at the headquarters of the church in Lagos, Ezekiel said it is important for political office holders to reverence God.No nation in the world, no matter its immense human and material resources, can succeed without acknowledging God in its scheme of things.She also said the President must be ready to listen to the yearnings of the people at every point in time, whenever he finds himself at the cross road of making decision for the nation. Isaac Taiwo Retooling Approach To ShariyahON Wednesday, May 11, 2011, Dr. Jan Boer will deliver the sixth Adeolu Adegbola Memorial Lecture at Immanuel College of Theology, Ibadan at 10.30am. His topic will be Retooling our Approach to Shariyah: A wholistic, Democratic and Pluralistic Approach. Dr. Boer, a former Assistant Director of the Institute of Church and Society, Jos, came to Nigeria in 1967 as a missionary of the Sudan United Mission. He was in Nigeria for 30 years. He is the author of the eight-volume series, Studies in Christian-Muslim Relations published by Essence Publishers, Ontario.
