Prove yourself and make my team, Keshi tells players

Published by Tribune on Wed, 08 Aug 2012

SELECTION of players for Super Eagles Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against the Lone Star of Liberia would be determined by the performance of each player and not according to where they are based, team's heead coach Stephen Keshi has stated. He has, therefore, threw the gauntlet telling the home based players to ignore insinuations that they are going to be used as mere training materials in the absence of the foreign based players and focus on making the main squad.Keshi who has expressed reservations over the categorisation of the players into home and foreign based warned the players against displaying any form of inferiority complex as they have equal opportunity like the players based abroad to make the team that will feature in the September 8, Nations Cup qualifier against Liberia.''Just show me what you can do on the pitch and leave the rest for us to do when time for selection of players for the games come,'' he said.Meawhile, the former Super Eagles skipper has expressed unhappiness at the state of the playing surface of the Abuja National Stadium.Keshi and his squad returned to training on Monday, but the coach was forced to move his first training session to the artificial turf of the Fifa Goal Project after assessing the condition of the national stadium pitch. The squad is preparing for a friendly match against Niger on August 15 which will serve as the tune-up for the game against Liberia to be played on a natural grass turf.
