Industrialisation imperative for job creation, says governor

Published by Guardian on Wed, 08 Aug 2012

THE high job creation profile of the manufacturing sector may have informed the ongoing resuscitation of industrial estates in Anambra State, which Governor Peter Obi described as his administration's priority.Speaking while inspecting Kriscol factory at the Harbor Industrial Layout, Ogbaru, recently,Obi noted that the manufacturing sector holds the key to a permanent solution to the challenges of unemployment in the country. He explained that the state had keyed into President Jonathan's vision of creating employment and had continued to encourage and empower industrialists in the state, adding that the president would commission some of the industries this month. The governor expressed satisfaction that small and medium scale enterprises had been given access to credit facilities at less than ten per cent interest rate. The Chairman of the company, Mr. Oranu Chidume said that they were involved in backward integration and called for collective decision and efforts by the people of the state to ensure continuity of good governance to avoid future regrets. In another development, Obi disclosedthat permanent measures had been taken to ensure that areas recovered from illegal structures were not encroached into in future.Obi, who spoke while inspecting the Bridge Head end of the Onitsha-Enugu-Dual Carriage-Way recently, said that the step was part of measures taken to ensure that entrance into Onitsha, remained clean.'The on-going recovery exercise would cover Onitsha North and South, Ogbaru. The recovered areas will, among other thingsbe beautified with flowers,' he said, and directed council Authority of the affected areas to ensure proper maintenance and protection of the sections.Obi warned those still resisting to vacate the areas and were purported to be planning demonstration to desist as government was committed to full implementation of the exercise.
