FCT to distribute Bibles to secondary schools

THE Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) is set to partner with the Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN) to begin the distribution of copies of the Revised Standard Version of the Holy Bible to secondary schools within the territory at a subsidised rate.This is even as it says it is not disposed to grant sponsorship slots to individuals or groups for the purpose of pilgrimage and other religious exercises in foreign lands in line with the Federal Government recent policy on the matter.FCT Minister of State, Mrs. Akinjide Olajumoke gave the indication in Abuja on Tuesday while receiving the Abuja Area Executives of the Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN) led by its FCT Chairman, Pastor John Kayode Agbede and the Area Secretary, Pastor Leo Ayewo.Consequently, Okinjide has tasked the Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN) to submit modalities in collaboration with the FCT Education Secretariat to facilitate the distribution of the religious books, stressing that 'faith comes by hearing and hearing through the word of God.'But the minister, who expressed willingness of the FCT administration to partner with religious groups to facilitate peaceful co-existence in the territory, bluntly declined a request by the BSN for sponsorship slots for its members for the Christian religious pilgrimage to the land of Israel and other holy sites in the Mediterranean.'Government is de-emphasising sponsorship of religious pilgrimages,' Akinjide said, even as she commended the Bible Society of Nigeria for facilitating peaceful co-existence amongst Nigerians through its works and other modes of operation in the country.Earlier, FCT Chairman of the Bible Society of Nigeria, Pastor John Kayode Agbede explained that the mission of the BSN is to meet the scriptural needs of every Nigerian in general, Christian Churches and Confessions in particular and to help people interact with the word of God.'We do this by translating, producing and distributing the bible in languages people can understand, in acceptable formats and at subsidised rates.
