Shareholders to endorse Unilevers N1.10 dividend tomorrow

Barring any lastminute change,shareholders of Unilever Nigeria Plc may tomorrow (Tuesday) consent to the dividend of N4.2 billion, which translates into N1.10 per share for the year ended December 31, 2010.The approval, which may come up at the companys 86th Annual General Meeting (AGM) holing in Lagos also sees  the companys turnover hitting N46.807 billion in its 2010 financial year end compared to N44.481 billion in 2009.A further peep into the companys account in the year under review showed that profit before tax stood at N6.151 billion compared with N5.661 billion in 2009. Profit after tax rose from N4.094 billion to N4.2 billion.Based on the performance, the directors have recommended the payment of the N1.10 dividend per share.A statement by the Corporate Relations Manager of the company, Mr. Yemi Adeboye, noted that apart from declaring the dividend, the shareholders would also deliberate on the report of the directors audited financial statements and report of the audit committee.According to him, Unilever believes in taking small actions every day, which normally makes big differences for the world eventually.Unilever works to create a better future everyday. This we do by meeting consumers daily needs for nutrition, hygiene and personal care with brands that help them feel good, look good and get more out of life, he explained.Adeboye added that the company subscribed to highest standards of corporate behaviour by being transparent in its dealings, fair in competition and law abiding.In a challenging operating environment like Nigeria, the company remains a pride in the area of corporate governance by strictly adhering to Unilevers global code of business principles. The company is also a socially responsible and responsive organisation that takes strategic actions for the improvement of Nigerian communities.Unilever Nigeria is in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) sector of the economy and it boasts of world class brands such as Close-Up toothpaste, Lipton Tea, Knorr and Royco food seasonings, Blue Band margarine among others.
